16 Oct Introducing TwinDamp™ and Picawood Pads
Introducing TwinDamp™ and Picawood Pads for use with our audio footers. These new accessories are the result of our continuing research into applications of novel high-damping materials to improve sound quality.
The pads provide additional clearance and minimize contact area similar to our optional spikes. The difference is that the pads have a blunt end rather than a sharp point to avoid indenting the supporting surface or equipment.
The Picawood Pad screws into the top our footers to provide extra clearance for protrusions on the underside of equipment such as bolts. Picawood is a densified wood comprised of 1mm thick layers of Finnish Birch compressed between layers of phenol resin adhesive. The result is an exceptionally dense and highly damped material exceeding the hardness of many aluminum alloys. Picawood is similar to the more common Panzerholz material but utilizes thinner layers of Birch compressed under a higher pressure. The material is cut in a vertical end grain direction to maximize the damping effect.
The TwinDamp™ Pad is used on the bottom of our footers as a low-profile alternative to our TwinDamp™ Spikes. TwinDamp™ is our high-damping manganese copper based alloy with 10 times the damping capacity of copper. When installed the TwinDamp™ Pads provide a highly damped interface with minimum contact area between the footer and the supporting surface.
